The exact beginning of the Bevy Cup is a little sketchy, but we believe it was started by Jack Morton as the Nation's Cup in 1980.
Five national teams played in the Nation Cup, Ireland, England, Scotland, USA and Germany, the USA team was captioned by Scott Meggs, the Nations Cup was the precursor to the Bevy Cup. These games were played at Delta Park.
As mentioned above, the Nations Cup was started in 1980 by Jack Morton and Paul Mulligan. Ireland won it that year. England won it in 81, 83,and 85. It grew to 16 teams and was discontinued in 1986.
The Bevy Cup was started by Brian Taylor, Paul Mulligan and Tony Ryan in 1992-1993.

It is great to see the enthusiasm and pride that the younger generations of Scottish, English and Irish players have shown in these games, and we would be remiss if we let this (over 30 year) tradition in Portland fall away….. because of Covid-19 or any other reason.
The Irish team took the trophy this last new year eve (2022) at Buckman Field, and then on to the Horse Brass Pub. It is not the same without the three original teams to keep this tradition going, it would be great to have the English team back in these games on New Years eve.
The game times, location, and where we celebrate after the games, will be posted here on this site.
